About Us
Reedsburg IGA can trace its history in this central Wisconsin town back to the early 1970s. Being an employee-owned business has made the difference to our customers, but it has also made for many changes over the years. Here is a small overview of how the store got to be where it's at, and how we've changed along with the community.
In 1971, Ted Brekke and Fred O'Reel decided to combine each of their individual grocery stores to create Ted & Fred's Super Foods. Like today, it was located on Second Street in Reedsburg.
It wasn't until 1986 that Ted & Fred's Super Foods built a store in the current Reedsburg IGA location. The new building greatly expanded what they could offer and was also re-named Jubilee Foods IGA.
In 1997, Dave Sorenson and Bill Schultz purchased Ted & Fred's Inc., including two stores, Jubilee in Reedsburg and an additional store in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Dave was the General Manager in Reedsburg and Bill was the General Manager in Viroqua.
Changing the name in 2002 was difficult, but necessary when the Fleming Company (Owner of the Jubilee name) went into bankruptcy. Reedsburg IGA aligned itself with Roundy's, Inc., and became Village Market.
In 2005, Roundy's decided to work solely with corporately-owned stores, leaving the employee-owned Reedsburg store in search of a new supplier. They landed on Affiliated Foods Midwest out of Norfolk, Nebraska. But, three years later, we would re-associate ourselves with IGA.
In 2008, with IGA back on the sign, we remodeled the Deli and the Bakery and completely redecorated the store with IGA branding.
The next big step was in 2009, when we developed our brand-new website to re-enforce our customer service and to continue to provide our customers with all that is IGA!
